Overview

RLX Auto Fit is a powerful Blender addon designed to automatically fit clothing items to one or multiple body targets. It offers advanced adaptive fitting with individual target body assignments and improved 3D shape preservation.

Features

1. Multi-Target Fitting

  • Assign multiple target bodies to a single clothing item
  • Set individual weights for each target body
  • Blend between multiple body shapes for complex fitting scenarios

2. Fitting Methods

Classic Method

  • Uses Shrinkwrap modifier for basic fitting
  • Suitable for simple clothing items or quick fits

Improved Method

  • Utilizes Surface Deform and Adaptive Shrinkwrap modifiers
  • Better preserves 3D shapes and details
  • Ideal for complex clothing items or when higher quality is needed

3. Modifier Controls

  • Shrinkwrap Offset: Adjust the distance between the clothing and the body
  • Surface Deform Falloff: Control how far the deformation influence extends
  • Adaptive Shrinkwrap Factor: Fine-tune the shrinkwrap behavior based on size differences
  • Smooth Factor and Iterations: Refine the surface smoothness of fitted clothing
  • Corrective Smooth Iterations: Further improve the final shape after fitting

4. Array Creation

  • Quickly create arrays of selected objects
  • Adjust array count directly from the addon panel

5. Object Operations

  • Join Objects: Combine multiple selected objects into one
  • Separate Objects: Split joined objects back into individual pieces
  • Set Origin to Geometry: Quickly center the origin point of selected objects

6. Selection Tools

  • Select Assigned Outfits: Easily select all clothing items that have been assigned to target bodies

7. Preset System

  • Save current settings as named presets
  • Load presets to quickly apply saved configurations
  • Manage multiple fitting setups for different scenarios

8. User Interface

  • Intuitive panel in the 3D Viewport sidebar
  • Easy-to-use list for managing target objects and their assigned bodies
  • Quick access to all major functions and settings

How to Use

  1. Adding Objects: Select the clothing items you want to fit and click "Add" in the addon panel.
  2. Assigning Target Bodies: For each clothing item, click the dropdown arrow and add one or more target bodies.
  3. Choosing Fitting Method: Select either "Classic" or "Improved" fitting method based on your needs.
  4. Adjusting Parameters: Fine-tune the fitting parameters as needed.
  5. Applying Fit: Click "Apply Fitting Modifiers" to add the necessary modifiers to your clothing items.
  6. Finalizing: Use "Apply All Modifiers" to finalize the fit when satisfied with the results.

Tips and Tricks

  • Use the "Improved" method for complex clothing items or when you need to preserve intricate details.
  • Experiment with different weight values when using multiple target bodies to achieve the desired blend.
  • Save presets for commonly used configurations to speed up your workflow.
  • The "Select Assigned Outfits" function is helpful for managing complex scenes with many clothing items.

Troubleshooting

  • If the fit is too tight or loose, adjust the Shrinkwrap Offset or Adaptive Shrinkwrap Factor.
  • For unwanted deformations, try increasing the Surface Deform Falloff or adjusting the Smooth Factor.
  • If the addon is running slowly, consider applying modifiers to objects you're no longer actively fitting.

System Requirements

  • Blender 4.2.1 or later
  • Compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux
  • Tested on Blender 4.1 (Experimental)

Individual Weights Explanation

The "Set individual weights for each target body" feature allows users to control how much influence each target body has on the final shape of the clothing item when using multiple target bodies. This is not related to weight painting, but rather to the overall influence of each target body on the fitting process.

  • Weights range from 0.0 to 1.0
  • A weight of 1.0 means the target body has full influence
  • A weight of 0.0 means the target body has no influence
  • The total of all weights does not need to equal 1.0

For example, if you have two target bodies:

  1. Body A with weight 1.0
  2. Body B with weight 0.5

The clothing will fit fully to Body A, but will also be influenced 50% by Body B, resulting in a blend between the two body shapes.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q1: What's the difference between the Classic and Improved fitting methods?

A1: The Classic method uses a simple Shrinkwrap modifier, which is faster but may not preserve complex 3D details. The Improved method uses a combination of Surface Deform and Adaptive Shrinkwrap modifiers, which better preserves 3D shapes and details but may be slower on complex meshes. (Improved Mode is Currently in Development)

Q2: Can I fit one piece of clothing to multiple bodies at once?

A2: Yes, you can assign multiple target bodies to a single clothing item. Use the dropdown arrow next to each clothing item in the addon panel to add multiple target bodies and set their individual weights.

Q3: What does the Adaptive Shrinkwrap Factor do?

A3: The Adaptive Shrinkwrap Factor adjusts the shrinkwrap behavior based on size differences between the clothing and the target body. A higher factor will make the addon more aggressive in adapting to size differences, while a lower factor will be more conservative.

Q4: Why isn't my clothing fitting correctly to the body?

A4: There could be several reasons:

  • The Shrinkwrap Offset might be too high or low. Try adjusting this value.
  • For the Improved method, the Surface Deform Falloff might need adjustment.
  • The geometry of the clothing might be too different from the body. Try using the Improved method for better results.
  • Ensure that the clothing item is properly assigned to the correct target body.

Q5: Can I use this addon for non-humanoid characters?

A5: Yes, the addon can work with any mesh objects, not just humanoid characters. However, for very complex or non-standard shapes, you might need to experiment with the settings to get the best results.

Q6: How do I save my current settings for future use?

A6: Use the Preset system. Enter a name for your preset in the "Preset Name" field and click "Save Preset". You can then load this preset later using the dropdown menu and "Load Preset" button.

Q7: What does "Apply All Modifiers" do and when should I use it?

A7: "Apply All Modifiers" finalizes the fit by applying all the modifiers added by the addon. Use this when you're satisfied with the fit and want to make the changes permanent. Be cautious, as this operation cannot be undone.

Q8: Can I use this addon with my existing clothing models?

A8: Yes, the addon can work with any mesh object. However, for best results, clothing models should be created with fitting in mind, ideally starting from a base model similar to your target body.

Q9: Does this addon support Blender's Multires modifier?

A9: The addon doesn't directly interact with the Multires modifier. If your clothing uses Multires, apply the RLX Auto Fit modifiers first, then reapply or adjust your Multires modifier as needed.

Q10: Can I use this addon in my commercial projects?

A10: Yes, the RLX Auto Fit addon can be used in commercial projects. However, please refer to the addon's license for any specific terms or conditions.
